A Lynchburg Virginia Wedding with Rebecca + Jeff

Last year when I had the opportunity to photograph Rebecca and Jeff’s engagement session I started really looking forward to their wedding. During the planning stages of the wedding, they had a few conflicts with the venue but kept me updated the entire time. They finally decided to exchange vows in the historic town of Lynchburg Virginia. My good friend Jeff Wilson joined me for the wedding and we both enjoyed our time photographing this happy couple. Our morning started out scouting a few locations around town for their photographs following the ceremony and from there we started preparations to shoot for the rest of the day. Below are just a few images from the wedding day. Congratulations again to Rebecca and Jeff!

To wrap things up, here is a slideshow

Off Camera Lighting in Charlotte

This past weekend the family and I traveled to South Carolina to hang out with our good friends Jeff + Trina Wilson. On our short weekend escape from DC, we were able to get in a couple of days of mountain biking, relaxation and of course we had to do something photography related. Jeff and I decided to work on a little off camera lighting on location with this phenomenal couple . Here is one of my favs from our 1 hour shoot. This image was captured at approximately 5:00 pm when the sun was nice and bright. With some in camera adjustments and one off camera Nikon speedlight, I was able to change the entire mood of the photograph.

Georgetown Engagement: Erica + George

She walks in my office and looks at me smiling while I am sorting through photographs on the computer. Kelley asks, “Why are you smiling?” My reply was, “I remember what he was saying to her when I captured this photograph”.

Not often as a photographer do you have a chance to know two people as individuals before they even have their first date and are then in a position to photograph their journey on the path to being husband and wife. That’s my story with Erica and George. I don’t think I could have scripted a better start to our couple/photographer relationship. One evening about 9:30pm, I received a text message from a mutual friend asking me if I was available to photograph their wedding in August 2011. It just so happened to be the one weekend I had available that month and just like that, I experienced my first “text message booking”. Fast forward about 3 weeks and Erica, George and I were meeting on the streets of Georgetown for their engagement session. The first few frames that were shot reaffirmed to me that this was without a doubt an incredible fun loving couple. I was able to just step back and capture those little moments that they were sharing with each other.

Visions and Memories of Italia

Visiting Italy was truly an experience I will remember for a lifetime. The hills of Tuscany were truly breathtaking and each morning when I looked around, I could not believe the visual feast. I had always thought that during my first stay in Italy, I would be in one of the more commercialized cities like Rome or Venice. Quite honestly, I didn’t think that Tuscany would be as rural as it happened to be but I was so content and satisfied by its lifestyle. By living in Washington DC, you get so used to the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it is so rewarding to go some place where time seems to stand still. The Borgo di Fontebussi was my home during my stay and I am eager to return. Here are a couple of images, one from the hillside of the villa and the other from a trip into Florence.

Suzy, Vanessa, Victoria Cruz and Delicious Chocolate Shakes

Life is all about transitions. Sometimes a transition can be a slight adjustment or it can be a complete change and an entirely new direction. For the last 7 years, I have had an affinity for two wheels. And because of my passion, I thought it only fitting to give each two wheel purchase their own identity and name . In 2004, I purchased my first motorcycle… Suzy. She was a Suzuki GSX-R 600 and for the 6 months scared the bageezies out of me. Less then 1 year after I purchased the bike, we went to the track:

After going to the track for an entire season I started pushing the bike to a point where I felt like I needed a little more power and decided to step it up to a 2006 GSX-R 1000…enter Vanessa. Over the next 4 years I traveled up and down the east coast to different road race courses and even ventured into Canada to Calabogie Motorsports Park. In 2009, I had my only two wrecks at the track. One was on my birthday weekend during a race weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park and the other was later that summer at New Jersey Motorsports Park. The first wreck wasn’t so bad… taped up some body work on the bike and went back out the next day. My asphalt surfing in New Jersey was a little worse. I completely destroyed the bodywork, broke a few pieces on the bike and bruised a few things on me including my ego.

5 years later, and another two wheel adventure begins! This time I removed the engine, put on some off road tires, took off the HOT leather suit. That’s right… time for some mountain biking. On New Years Day this year, I went out for the first time with my friends and instantly knew that this would be something that I would love doing. Not only was it challenging, but it was in incredible workout. Today I picked up the newest member of the family a 2009 Mongoose Meteore Comp aka Victoria Cruz. I can’t wait to hit the trails for some water, mud, jumps and branch ducking. The bike is pretty trick with an XL frame because I am somewhat tall and some pretty nice components to go with it. But the reflectors have to go, if I keep those on I might as well hold out my arm when I am about to make a turn. I will be sure to blog about our first date.

Now onto something a little more tasty! I have just entered into my 5 week of P90X. Part of my nutrition plan happens to be a delicious chocolate shake once a day. Don’t shake your head, this shake has my full day supply of vegetables and happens to taste better than many chocolate shakes I have had in the past. Of course I am talking about Shakeology!
