Motorcycle Stunt Show with Jason Britton

This weekend we travelled up to New Jersey Motorsports Park for a trackday on the Lightning course. We were on one track, the redline time attack cars where on the other track (Thunderbolt)and in the midst of it all, Jason Britton was there with his stunt team putting on a show. Sneak Preview, 2009 XXL Club Shirt

Ok it is coming to you a little late BUT here it is! This is the design for our 2009 XXL Motorcycle Club Shirt. We are wearing them here at New Jersey Motorsports Park this weekend for our track day. It’s 11:30pm here the night before the track day. We’ve been here for a little over an hour and I need to be sleep at this point. So goodnight

OH and here is a quick explanation of SIZE MATTERS. The typical build for a motorcycle racers is about 165 lbs or lighter. Most of the guys in our club weight over 200lbs. So for us SIZE does MATTER!

Yesterday I had the opportunity to do a bridal shoot with Ivonne. Despite the occasional running between the rain drops it was an almost perfect day. As you can see from the images, this was one of those shoots where everything came together.

The Road to Carolina Motorsports Park…pt. 1

The madness started yesterday as I began preparation for the upcoming race weekend at Carolina Motorsports Park. If you have never had to prepare for a track day or race, you have NO IDEA the things that you need to physically and more importantly mentally to get ready. As a privateer, you really gain an appreciation for the professional race teams that have crews to worry about the logistics. All the rider has to do is show up, test, practice, race. If something needs to be adjusted, he tells his wrench (mechanic) and the adjustments are made for him.

This weekend I will be racing my GSX-R 1000 in 7 races, 4 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday (if the rain holds or clears out). I am also trying to squeeze in a track day on Friday since I have never been to this track. My teammates may also be joining me. Jim Cohrs will be coming up from Atlanta to race in the 600 cc classes and Jose de Leon may be coming down from Virginia to race in the 1000 cc classes with me. I have to send out a big thanks to Eric, aka IJB (don’t ask). He is riding down with me as well as going to assist where he can in helping us get on track. Eric has been injured since January 2008 with a broken leg from a track day at Roebling Road. He is doing much better and will hopefully be back on the saddle this summer. Even though this is about your personal efforts on the track, it’s always great having friends out there with you and if you can find the groove, it makes for an easier time working your way through the pack.

I will be posting more in the coming days and I hope to have a video put together from the entire trip!

Below are some photos of the bike going through its transformation. Vanessa (that be the bike), hasn’t seen any track time since last September. Because of issues with my last set of bodywork, I am converting over my older set of track day bodywork for the races. It’s not all about looks but you do want to look decent on the track, so I decided to paint my gas tank to match. I also had to spray on my number plates for the front and tail section. Before I button everything back up, I am going to change the oil and before she is loaded up on to the truck, she should have a fresh set of tires on. There is one thing that I have learned in my 4 years of track days and now racing, you can NEVER over prepare. The name of the game is “Early Preparation”. If I can get in bed at a decent hour the night before we hit the road, I will be a happy camper!

Senior Photos without the Tradition

Najma contacted me asking me to take her senior photos. Of course was the answer yes. I have been her “personal photographer” for the last 4 or 5 years LOL. She told me that she didn’t want to do the regular senior photos and then she proceeded to tell me what she had in mind and then all we needed to do was to set the date. Today was the day for the shoot and as you can see….Sears portraits they are not. If you know Najma, you know that she thinks out of the box and this goes right along with that. We had a ball. It was one of my easier shoots I must say. Yes it felt weird carrying a guitar across the street and onto the train tracks so I guess that is why she had me do it. She is off to Berkley in the Fall and I know she will be doing BIG THINGS. I guess I should already get thoughts together for the CD cover. Here are a few photos from our session!

A Surprise Birthday in Old Town Alexandria

This evening I had the honor of shooting a surprise birthday party for a great family. Sandy called and told me that it was her husbands’ 62nd birthday and she was having a surprise birthday party for him at his favorite restaurant in Alexandria Virginia, Il Porto Ristorante. The dinner party was small but EVERYONE was great! Before dinner was served, his daughter Gina played the guitar and sang a song for him. She can SING! It was a beautiful day today and I really enjoyed covering this special moment for Sandy and Ed. The highlight of my evening is when Ed leaned over and told me that the biggest surprise of all was me! He told me he was so happy that I was there to capture all of it so he can always remember this birthday. Here are a few photos from today:

Today I had the chance to hang out with my friends Rich and Carla, one of my past couples who’s wedding I photographed in 2008. Rich recently picked up the Canon 5D Mark II and had been looking forward to an opportunity to go do some shooting. We decided to check out the National Park Seminary. Well I set the date without checking the weather! The forecast called for rain pretty much all this weekend but we moved ahead with our plans regardless. The weather held back just enough for us to have a great time and decide that we will do it again soon. Here are just a few images from the day:
