Engagement Session: Ann + Brian

Today as the country remembered the events of September 11, 2001, I had the privilege to photograph an amazing couple as they start their journey towards being one as husband and wife. Kelley and I met Ann and Brian down on the pier in Old Town Alexandria Virginia. Kelley and Ann found a nice shady location and Kelley went to work with the makeup and brushes. THIS WAS PERFECT because Brian and I had a chance to hang out and talk about what else….. THE START OF THE NFL SEASON! Both of us are involved in NFL Fantasy Leagues and as we discussed our thoughts on the season, we both frequently looked down at our phones to check out our teams on the Fantasy Football apps.

Once makeup was done, it was time for me to have some fun with the couple. We walked around Old Town and captured some images to celebrate their engagement. Below are a few images from today. I know their wedding is going to be special and Kelley and I are both looking forward to being a part of it!

Georgetown Engagement: Erica + George

She walks in my office and looks at me smiling while I am sorting through photographs on the computer. Kelley asks, “Why are you smiling?” My reply was, “I remember what he was saying to her when I captured this photograph”.

Not often as a photographer do you have a chance to know two people as individuals before they even have their first date and are then in a position to photograph their journey on the path to being husband and wife. That’s my story with Erica and George. I don’t think I could have scripted a better start to our couple/photographer relationship. One evening about 9:30pm, I received a text message from a mutual friend asking me if I was available to photograph their wedding in August 2011. It just so happened to be the one weekend I had available that month and just like that, I experienced my first “text message booking”. Fast forward about 3 weeks and Erica, George and I were meeting on the streets of Georgetown for their engagement session. The first few frames that were shot reaffirmed to me that this was without a doubt an incredible fun loving couple. I was able to just step back and capture those little moments that they were sharing with each other.

Fall DC Engagement Session: Shayla + Mack

Beautiful fall weather, colors everywhere, and a fantastic couple are just a few descriptions of my recent fall engagement session with Shayla and Mack. Shante and Derrick referred Shayla to me and from then on I knew they were going to be in awesome couple. The two of them will be heading to the islands next year to get married!

Love in Old Town Alexandria. Rebecca + Jeff

Rebecca and Jeff share something special. You can tell not only from the way that they look at each other in the passing moments but also how Jeff gently holds her hand as they walk along. I really enjoyed shooting their engagement photographs in Old Town Alexandria Virginia. During the wedding consultation, Rebecca told me just how special Old Town happened to be to them.

Annapolis Maryland Engagement Session | Kilwin’s Ice Cream

Sometimes you can get so caught up in your day to day world as a photographer, that when a family member calls on you to photograph them, it can actually make you pause and think about the moment. This isn’t a moment that happens because they called you simply because you are family but more because you are family and they really value your work as a photographer.

I received a call from my brother Jay and his fiance Danielle. The conversation started something like this, “Hey B.I.L. (which is his shorthand language for “Brother-in-Law”), can we schedule some time to take engagement photos”? He made it easy because he already knew the exact location for the shoot…Annapolis Maryland. Jay is an avid fisherman and often goes to Jonas Green State Park to fish…so that’s where we headed. After capturing some images there, we moved into downtown Annapolis to finish up. Below are some images from the session.

Kilwin’s Ice Cream may have some of the best ice cream that I have tasted! I LOVE almost anything coconut and they had a toasted coconut ice cream that was incredible. But hey, since it was family, they didn’t mind me eating while we finished up the session

Art Whino National Harbor Engagement Session | Kai and Malik

Yesterday I had the opportunity to do a quick engagement session with a couple whose wedding I will be photographing on September 25, 2010. I have to admit this was probably the most fun I have had during an engagement session. We started shooting at the Art Whino art gallery at the National Harbor and then moved to The Westin to finish up.

Malik kept us all laughing pretty much the entire time. As we finished up at the Art Whino gallery, he walked by an exhibit and slightly brushed it causing it to fall all over the floor. It looked to be one piece but as it fell, we quickly noticed that it was about 10 pieces. As it was falling all we could hear him saying was “I am SO sorry”. We all stood with a blank stare scared to find out how much it cost. Come to find out it was only about $90 but what’s even better is it wasn’t broken.

Newton White Mansion Wedding | Engagement Photographs: Lynnea & Brian

With their wedding at Newton White Mansion quickly approaching, Lynnea and Brian wanted to shoot engagement photographs downtown at the Washington Capitol. When I first met with Lynnea and her mom for our consultation, she told me all about her and Brian and how they met. I think it’s so cool to see the joy and comfort in a mothers eyes when she discusses her daughter getting married. You can almost sense the great mood and warm and fuzzy feelings that will be at the wedding. I really enjoyed the consultation because to me, it felt like a fun conversation between friends. Engagement Session with Derrick and Shante

This was a fun one! There is nothing like a couple that just gives off a great vibe. Derrick and Shante are two amazing people. The rain came down just for a little while but after taking some cover we got back at it for more shooting. I can’t wait to shoot their wedding in Antigua next year!
